The Society

The Society was founded in1989.  Our President is Roger Thornburgh who is one of our founding members. Roger lived and taught locally to Loose for many years, before moving away. We still hear from him regularly and see him from time to time at our meetings

We meet on the second Monday* of every  month from October to May, normally at Loose Infant School Hall, Loose Road, Maidstone, at 7.30 pm to hear talks by well-informed speakers on local, social and family history subjects.
(* Subject to change if a Bank Holiday)
Admission: members £3, visitors £4.00
In June and July we visit nearby places of interest for guided tours.
  • We maintain an archive of documents and photographs for the benefit of members and bona-fide researchers.
  •  Our Research Group currently is not meeting, but in the past has assisted members with their own research and has also studied manuscripts, inventories and wills. The planing and prepararation of exhibitions has been a task they have undertaken.
  • Over the years we published a local history journal, “Loose Threads”, featuring aspects of the history of Loose and neighbouring parishes and we are co- publishers  of Loose and Linton: a Pictorial History.
