The Society meets on the second Wednesday of each month October through to May at 7.30 PM at King George V Pavilion, Walnut Tree Lane, Loose (opposite Loose Primary School). There is a programme of lectures on historical subjects (not necessarily confined to subjects relating to Loose and its immediate area but generally of a ‘local’ flavour) and the meetings usually end at about 9 pm after coffee\/tea for those who want it.\u00a0 In addition we undertake two summer visits to places of historical interest in Kent (or near-East Sussex), participation in which needs to be booked at a meeting of the society.<\/p>\n
The Society formerly maintained a research group, the fruits of whose labour are contained in an archive.\u00a0 The major items are available through links on this site.\u00a0 Many topics of interest are also to be found through the Society’s two publications ‘Loose Threads’ and ‘Loose Ends’, both of which are indexed on this site, which also carries all 14 editions of Loose Threads in full.\u00a0 Please feel free to use the site for any research you may be undertaking: our archivist may be contacted through this site if you have any queries.<\/p>\n
New Members of the Society are always welcome: you may join the Society at any Meeting, or by using the contact form on this site.\u00a0 Walnut Tree Lane<\/strong> is on the left of the Loose Road (as you come away from Maidstone) immediately beyond<\/strong> the Walnut Tree public house and opposite Loose Primary School at the highest point of the Loose Road: if you start to descend you’ve just missed it.\u00a0 Do not go up Walnut Tree Avenue, <\/strong>which is before<\/strong> the Walnut Tree public house.<\/strong>\u00a0 Car parking is available on site.\u00a0 A modest charge is made for attendance to cover speakers’ expenses and the hire of the hall.<\/p>\n If you would like to know what else goes on in Loose, the link below will take you to The Loose Amenities Association, which runs a number of popular events in and around the village each year.<\/p>\n
